GISC Summer Heat & Beach Music Festival
The Golden Isles Shag Club has been working with the Jekyll Island Authority and the Host Hotels, to put together a long weekend event "Summer Heat", specially for Shag Dancers. We made a decision to get an all inclusive package price for this event, so that the parties, live concerts with 4 Great Beach Music Bands and your room accomodation were all included. In addition when you buy either of the the packages, JIA has offerred discounts for both the Summer Waves Water Park and tours of the Jekyll Island Historic District and Museum.
The event starts with a Kick Off Party & Dance Thursday night at the Convention Center which is included in your package, or purchase at the door for $10/person. On Friday we start the day with a Line Dance and Intermediate Shag workshops ($10/person), in the afternoon you may want to take advantage of Summer Waves Water Park($10/person with package) with all the Water Slides, Lazy River and the Big Splash. The action continues with an invitation to a Wine Tasting and BBQ ($35/person), at McCormick's Grill in the Clubhouse of Jekyll's 63 hole golf complex. On to the Convention Center on Friday night where you can dance to the Band of Oz, Tommy Black and Blooz with Christine Cooper. The convention center venue has space for over 1,500 to dance, socialize and partake of an adult beverage or two - it will be fun!
On Saturday we host a beginners "Learn to Shag Dance" and Advanced Workshop ($10/person). The JIA hosts the free "Beach Blast" between 12:00 and 4:00 with 3 live bands performing on the beach. The "BBQ Bash" has been cooking all out for a full day before, and now is the time to eat some of it, in the new Great Dunes Park. Saturday Night you return to the Convention Center where you can dance to performances by the Craig Woolard Band and the Swingin' Medallions in a "Bring Down the House" finale. On Sunday we end the 21st Shag-A-Ganza ~ Summer Heat with a "Breakfast & Gospel Hour" at your host hotel, then before you leave the island take advantage of the ($10/person with package) Jekyll Island Historic District and Museum tour.
In organizing the event, the team has worked hard to give great value for money. We have targeted an early registration price of $350/couple for the 4 day / 3 night, and $265/couple for the 3 day / 2 night event packages.
