Membership in the Golden Isles Shag Club
The Golden Isles Shag Club (GISC) was formed in August of 1989 by a small handful of Glynn County residents who all shared a mutual love for Carolina Beach Music, Shag Dance and love of the Beach Lifestyle. In 1990 GISC joined The Association of Carolina Shag Clubs (ACSC) which is the parent organization for shag clubs located in nearly 100 cities with an annual membership around 10,000 members from all of the clubs combined. In 1996 GISC decided to incorporate and is a non-profit organization. Member's many voluntary contributions to the club and its events could now be valued at tax time.
From modest membership beginnings, GISC has grown to a membership of 100 to 150 shaggers annually. Membership is open to those who have either taken shag lessons or can exhibit a basic skill of the dance and have been sponsored by an active GISC member. Prospective members are also encouraged to attend club functions prior to submitting an application to join. Since 1991 our club has hosted an annual party called "The Sand Gnat Shag-A-Ganza" in June on beautiful Jekyll Island. Annually the party draws a couple of hundred shaggers from Georgia, Florida and the Carolina's.

New Member Application requires an initial hard copy form so that you can be added to the club roster and email list. From that time forward you can fill out changes or simply Re-Up using PayPal. For email address changes only, you can send your new address to Membership Email Change. The Membership secretary will pick it up and update the email list. Keeping the email list current is important if you want to recieve the News letter that is sent out to keep you informed of club happenings, events, and visits.
