Current GISC Committee Reports
The club has 6 working committees, Entertainment, Dance, Communication, Membership, Charity and Shag-A-Ganza. The curent report of these committees from the March 9th 2010 Board Meeting are appended below:
ENTERTAINMENT ~ Donita Taylor - Chairperson: A pot luck party and benefit for the Humane Society will be held March 13, 2010. Linda Stevenson is in charge of setting up. Donita commented that she has done an excellent job with party preparations. She needs help setting up at 11 am. Ronnie and Carole Pickren, and Meredith and Bobby Crews will bring in 2 coolers and ice at 5 pm. Sue Wainwright will help decorate. Sue has also offered to help with Sand Gnat. There is a need for someone to help at the door. Larry Allen was suggested.
DANCE ~ Judy Bennett - Chairperson: March 2nd, the step of the month at Ziggy’s 6:30-7:00 pm is the Funky Applejack. Two members and two non members participated. Will teach again next week. February 4th started the month long shag lessons. 22 paid students. May lessons are up next. Phyllis mentioned the radio ads sounded like the classes were being given weekly, not quarterly.
MEMBERSHIP ~ Carlton Gay - Chairperson: Six new applications were voted on: T. J. Brockington, Catherine Heath, Chad and Katherine Hubbard, and Tony and Cece Scoggins were approved. Judy will give out membership cards. There were three more renewals and six associate members recorded. In the past, associate memberships were granted for one full year from the date of lessons. A vote was taken, that in the future, the associate membership will only be valid until the end of the year. Catherine made motion to approve. Phyllis seconded. It was passed unanimously.
COMMUNICATIONS: ~ Judy Bennett: Judy is sending monthly newsletters. Discussion of a possible Communications Chairman is under new business.
CHARITY ~ Jimmy Stevenson - Chairperson: Prior discussion of the Humane Society benefit under old business.
SANDGNAT ~ Dilys Jagger - Chairperson: Rob stood in for Dilys who was out of the country. He stated Dilys’ only concern was the number of people who may attend. The Club has signed a guarantee that at least 60 rooms will be rented or the Club will pay the difference. Dilys has been diligent on having the hotel upgrade rooms prior to the party in June. Judy has sent out emails to all Shag Club Presidents as a reminder to go on the website and sign up for Sand Gnat now. Also to advise that PayPal will be available for payment. She will send regular emails out, especially one month prior. There is no up front commitment on the Emerald Princess as to a head count for the Saturday cruise. Dilys will call on Thursday prior. There will be no lunch served on Saturday as in the past. This will leave members able to relax and enjoy the convention instead of cooking lunch. Leftovers from Friday will be served if needed. Instead of late night treats, pizza delivery will be made at 10 pm on Friday. If it seems to go over well, the same will be done on Saturday night. The Saturday night meal has been negotiated at $18.50 per person. It will be held upstairs to facilitate a larger dance floor. Judy has tickets for free Sand Gnat admission. Ticket price TBD. Half of the money raised will go to charity and half to the Sand Gnat fund. Suggested to give away one ticket per month.
