Golden Isles Shag Club 20th Annual Party
The 20th Sand Gnat ~ Shag-A-Ganza will be held by the Golden Isles Shag Club from June 3rd to June 6th. The host hotel for the party is the Clarion Oceanfront Resort on Jekyll Island, Georgia. The party will start with a Kick-Off at the club's weekly dance location of Ziggy Mahoney's on neighboring St Simons Island. From Friday on, the activity will center at Oceanfront Resort finishing on Sunday with a "Liquid Sunshine", Gospel Hour and the "Survivors Party" photo shoot.
Great Dancing and Great DJ's
One of the things the GoldenIsles shag Club has always done is to bring in Guest DJ's from different places. We have found through the years that they bring with some of their regional favorites. This year with Mike Harding is a return DJ because he was so enthusiastically greeted by the dancers by playing many tunes popular in the Greensboro,
and Raleigh / Durham area in the Research Triangle of NC. Fessa'John Hook is well known in the Myrtle Beach area, and it will be great to have him return to Jekyll after an absence of a few years. Our Club DJ Wayne Bennett will play and give dancers from the Carolinas a taste of the Soul, Boogie, R&B that we enjoy so much in Coastal Georgia.
One of our traditions at Shag-A-Ganza is the Survivor's Picture that we always take on Sunday Morning. From the Early Bird Party through to the takedown Club Members and Guests gather to record another fun weekend, prior to going home for a rest.
Workshops and Hospitality Suites
While we come to party - all fun and no work makes Jack a dull boy - so we add workshops to prevent that from happening. Wayne and Judy run the Friday one, while Mike Harding has Saturday. We add a little more work for you on Saturday evening as we gather for dinner, Fessa'Hook is going to have a Shag Trivia Contest between all the tables at dinner. Our Hospitality Suite is open between things, with complementary Adult Beverages and Snacks.
Pool Party or Cruise Excursion
The pool party is always enjoyed by many of our guests who every year say they will take it a little easier than last year - but somehow that never seems to happen. The Dj puts on some shag classic and the dancing on the deck begin. Off to the pool to refresh, and then along comes a Continental, and the Line 
Dancers are on their feet ready to show off their dancing moves. This year we are going to try something new. In your registration we have included the option for you to take an afternoon on the water aboard the Emerald Princess. The Golden Isles really are beautiful and being able to see them from the ocean can be a treat if you have never seen them from the water. Some of you may want to play the penny slots, or a little blackjack once outside the 3 mile limit, if the air conditioning is too cold you can go topside for ocean breezes and a little sun . The trip serves a light complementary lunch, a Dance Floor and Music.
