GISC & Membership

From modest membership beginnings, GISC has grown to a membership of 100 to 150 shaggers annually. Membership is open to those who have either taken shag lessons or can exhibit a basic skill of the dance and have been sponsored by an active GISC member. Prospective members are also encouraged to attend club functions prior to submitting an application to join.

How GISC got started & some club history

The Golden Isles Shag Club (GISC) was formed in August of 1989 by a small handful of Glynn County residents who all shared a mutual love for Carolina Beach Music, Shag Dance and love of the Beach Lifestyle.

In 1990 GISC joined The Association of Carolina Shag Clubs (ACSC) which is the parent organization for shag clubs located in nearly 100 cities with an annual membership around 10,000 members from all of the clubs combined. In 1996 GISC incorporated and is a non-profit organization.
