The Golden Isles Shag Club has been working with the Jekyll Island Authority on the planning and selection of bands for this years Beach Music Festival, August 21-22. The contracts are now signed with the bands and this year 4 top bands will be appearing. The bands are The Band of Oz, Tommy Black and Blooz with Christine Cooper, The Craig Woolard Band and the well liked local favorite the Swingin' Medallions.

Preliminary Event Schedule

In conversation with Judie Walters of JLW Promotions who was introduced to the JIA by the Golden Isles Shag Club, she has contracted with the JIA for 3 of the 4 bands, the schedule will roughly be as follows. The Band of Oz, Tommy Black and Blooz will play sets Friday Evening at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. On Saturday they will be joined by the Craig Woolard Band for the open air concert on the beach. Saturday night will feature The Swingin' Medallions and the Craig Woolard Band for the Saturday Night shows in the convention center.

This very impressive line up for the Beach Music Festival will bring to the area the very top bands in beach music. Band of Oz is a top band winner, Craig Woolard the top performer and Tommy Black is a song the the year winner at the Carolina Beach Music Association Awards. All the bands play a broad spectrum of music from Beach to Boogie, Soul, Blues, R&B, Rock and even a little Cha-Cha and Country. As well as bands Judie has contracted to bring Fessa' John Hook, Wayne Bennett and Johnny B of WSGE to DJ and act as Masters of Ceremony for the various events.

As things are starting to firm up it also looks like an Early Bird Party, Shag Dancing Lessons and Workshops will be a part of this years festival. The Jekyll Island Authority events team is to be congratulated for examining other events like SOS (Society of Stranders) in North Myrtle Beach and the CBMA awards show, so they can bring those top drawer Bands, Fun Sun and Party to the Golden Isles of Georgia. It is going to be a Blast!
